Make your Mark
Sat. March 11th 1-4pm
Do you draw, paint or make letters? Have you always wondered how to make your own pen or mark-making instrument? This afternoon class will teach you how to cut a pen from a bamboo stick, a quill (feather) and from aluminum cans. The type of marks and lines that you can make with these instruments is diverse and each tool acts differently on the surface you use. We’ll work for 3 hours making and testing out the tools on different papers.
Materials that you'll need to bring:
-A few different kinds of paper - smooth, with a tooth, soft, hard, pulpy
-Feathers and bamboo sticks if you want to bring them.
We supply: Snap-off blade utility knife, Quills, Bamboo, aluminum cans, 1/8” dowels and 2” plastic cutting boards
*No refunds or exchanges unless class is cancelled
Nicky Yeager is a calligrapher and historian of the book that has been writing with quills, bamboo and ruling pens for 35 years. He will share his knowledge on how to make the instruments and demonstrate what kind of marks can be made with them.
