Cortney Spillane
Oh Bernina
Vintage deck brush, found foliage, stone clay, wire, acryla gouache, acrylic box
6" X 6" x 2.75”
hangs on wall or free standing

Note from the artist:

Found brush was trimmed to fit acrylic housing/habitat for the Stone Thick-knee. Because “thick knees” are a family trait, I found irony in this bird’s nomenclature. I named the piece after my grandmother’s Bernina sewing machine, which also resembles the bird’s Latin name: Burhindae. The bird is sculpted from stone clay, with a minimal armature frame. It is painted in its natural colors with acryla gouache for durability. The found foliage features natural lichens in varying texture and color.

This piece is part of our current exhibition BRUSHED and will remain on display in the gallery through October 16th. We will ship this piece the week of October 17th.
